News and Blues

These links are pretty mainstream. I think their conclusions are pretty motivating.

Sooo. . . . what do you suggest we do about this? Take all our money out of the bank and put in under the mattress?

You know, I am not really sure. But if very thoughtful respected financial writers are warning that we are in the worst financial crisis since either WW2, or the Great Depression (depending on who you listen to) it might time to DO something.

Having some money in the mattress can't hurt, even though we don't have much and the kids have even less. We don't have enough to stuff a small kleenex box, yet alone a mattress. I have heard that it takes at least 45 days for the FDIC to start disbursements in the event that a bank fails, and they have to pay out on their account insurance. 45 days would be a long time.

I am tickled, Dear Friend, that you brought a solution to the discussion. No one else has. I know one of our kids is aware of the depth of the problems that we face. Maybe two. The others I think are all vying for the title of Cleopatra, Queen of De Nile. I have now idea how to change that either.

How about it, anyone lurking out there? What is your solution to making your life more secure in the face of the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. You can't stop the trucks on the highway, but you don't have to make your bed there either.
